Mr. Tom has a Mrs.

I finely painted the Mrs. Tom in. I didn't add much detail because I wanted her to be 'un-interesting' (although she does look like she's nagging him, lol) since he is showing off his full masculine self.

Ya know, I decided I really do like these new acrylics (SoHo acrylic paints) and I really enjoyed painting the wild turkeys.

I think I favor painting the wild feathered friends and landscapes more then anything else the past few years, although I do like painting a still life on occasion to.
But, I have noticed my thinking and browsing has been going to the child portrait side of things, does this mean my artistic wings are going to spread again?
I really wouldn't mind, after all, artist are suppose to be adventurous and creative right?
Again on second thought it kind of scares me, the only time I have ever attempted such a thing is when I was in high school and the whole art class had to paint a portrait of a real person by memory using pastels after a few short lessons.
I can actually say at that time, I thought it was very good. I wish I still had it now but as time goes on and we move on, things get trashed or lost. We'll see what happens in the future.

I'm so glad I have the desire to paint again, I was beginning to get worried.

Creativity, thoughts, putting it all together... more on this subject another time.

Mr. Tom

Well, I have been working on this one for a couple of weeks now (guess I should post the date 05/22/2009).
I took about 50 pic's of a friend of ours stuffed turkey for future reference and finely decided to paint this big guy. Still have some work to do and I am going to paint a femaile turkey in to. Hopefully next week will be uneventful and I can get to the painting and finish it.
I am using a new brand paint (to me) called SoHo acrylic and really love it, it gives the same sheen as oil paints and has enough body you can show stroke work if needed or wanted.

This is the easiest Store I've ever set up. I love it!

Wild Tom

I'm finely itching to get started painting again.
I have some photos I took of a friends stuffed turkeys from when he went game hunting.
I never realized that turkeys had 'beards'. (laughing)

I have enough snapshots of them and closeups so I get the detail I will need especially since I don't remember the feather detail in different layers and that silly looking red thing that hangs from their head. I am going to read about that sometime so I know what it is and the why's.

Maybe today after church or tomorrow I can get started on it. Come back and visit with me and hopefully we can see some results in a day or two.

Is It Artists Block or Lack of Umph?

Does anyone get these blocks where you want to paint but just can't figure out what ya want to paint or how you want to put it together? I have been having that problem for sooo long! I look at some of the photos I have taken of the river, flowers, scenery, etc. and just can't seem to come up with anything or put anything together.

The other day I was looking at a furniture sales flyer I got in the mail from a local store and saw some paintings with high dollar tags on them and got to wondering... these are just simple landscapes with trees, grass and such with nothing specific in them, could this be what people are looking for in a painting just to have something on their walls? The more I thought about it, I thought maybe it is a good idea... I guess. Then furniture could be changed, colors could be changed and the paintings like this are so neutral that they would go with most designs. And with the economy the way it is, this could be a good thing or is anyone still spending $ ?

I haven't done any art and craft shows since we've been here, just about 2 yrs now and haven't painted up that much but have lots of old stuff that has been scratched up in the move. I need to freshen them up with some new paint and do a show, but don't have enough canvases painted to take and there are so many artists here I think it would very hard for me to compete but maybe if I stick to the kind of paintings in that flyer and nothing over a hundred bucks since the other artist high priced I might be able to sell some stuff and get some potential clients.

Last year I went to some art & craft shows and there was sooo many girls doing one stroke that a lot of the booths were looking the same although they were all beautiful and the surfaces were varied, I decided that I will have to repaint some of my old stuff. But, its all still sitting out in the garage.

Maybe... if I could find someone with same interest here in our little town to share a booth with or paint with, that would make it all fun again.

Warm Wild Flowers

I'm calling this one Warm Wildflowers

I am finding that its hard to get started when I have stopped painting for a while for whatever reasons. It's almost like starting over and learning the same things I have done before all over again.

I decided I need to paint, wheather it is good, bad or in between I had to get started.

So finely, I started this painting about 2 weeks ago or so and finished today. It put me back in the spirit to paint and was much needed.

Finely opened the store. It took a while tho, seems code, etc., never goes the right way the first time and to be able to stay around and work on it was a chore in itself so, as stated before, it took some time but still hoping not too late for the Holidays.

Rainy Days

Are great for reading, painting, housework, baking and maybe a big pot of chili to.
If time permits, I've been thinking about doing a painting of still life, maybe a wine bottle, hopefully a glass half full of wine, grapes and leaves, candle, cheese and of course I will have to throw in some daisies since I love them.
Just need the time to sit and sketch how I want them placed and decide on colors for background and table cloth. But then by the time I get ready to start it, seems like things change and elements are added and some even taken out completely. I guess I'll see what happens.
I will post my final painting when done.
